Book Details:
Claire Bennett is standing in her kitchen at 11:40 on a Tuesday night, holding a permission slip that is four months late — and finally admitting she isn’t behind on one thing. She’s behind on everything, all at once. Sixty Minutes Forward is a real-life guide for anyone who has ever stood in front of a drawer, an inbox, or a to-do list that quietly turned into a monument instead of a plan. Marcus Dayford follows Claire through the year she stops trying to hold seven open commitments at once and learns to work in a different unit entirely: one protected hour, aimed at one clear result, chosen on purpose instead of grabbed in a panic.
This isn’t a book about waking at five, tracking every minute, or finding more willpower. It’s about what happens when a busy, capable person — a consultant, a mother of two, someone running a household that never quite stops — finally gets a method built for a life that doesn’t hold still. A report she’s been avoiding. A drawer she can’t open. A training plan gathering dust. A hobby she gave up without meaning to. And a teenage daughter drowning in the exact same way Claire once was. Told through Claire’s own unfolding year, the book shows how four small moves — choose, define, protect, decide — turn pressure that feels impossible to carry into progress you can actually see. You don’t need a perfect week. You need one hour, chosen on purpose.
About the author
Meet Marcus Dayford
Marcus Dayford grew up in Galway, Ireland, and now lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia, with his family. He studied organizational psychology and spent fifteen years coordinating schedules and staffing for regional hospitals, where he watched capable people buckle under too many competing demands. He began writing in his twenties, filling a notebook with observations on the commuter ferry. His first manuscript went nowhere; it was too abstract, and he knew it. Years of rejection taught him to write the way people actually live, sick children and spoiled plans included.
For Marcus, writing is a way to make sense of pressure and hand back something usable. He hopes readers finish each book feeling lighter and more capable, holding one small action they can take that same day. His ideas come from overheard conversations, his own mistakes, and a stack of attention research he reads with a skeptical eye. He tests every method on himself before it reaches the page. Away from the desk, Marcus reads Ursula K. Le Guin, bakes bread on Sundays, and walks the harbor at dawn. He credits his grandmother, who finished one task completely before starting another. His guiding belief is simple: begin where you are.
