Book Details:
When did “I don’t mind” become the sentence you say most? If you agree to favors you resent, hint instead of asking, and feel guilty at the thought of disappointing anyone, this book was written for you. No More Walking on Eggshells: The Art of Setting Boundaries Without Hurting Relationships is a warm, practical communication guide for people-pleasers who want to stay close to the people in their lives and still protect their time, energy, and honesty. Each chapter opens with a scene from a year in the life of Nora Bellamy, a worn-out project coordinator learning to speak up, then explains what is happening underneath and which skill helps.
Inside, you will discover where people-pleasing begins, why a simple no can feel like danger, and how kindness differs from niceness. You will learn short, clean ways to decline, a four-part script for hard conversations, how to listen to disappointment without giving in, and how to hold a limit when others push back. Separate chapters cover work, family, romance, and friendship, and one addresses the risk of over correcting. Drawing on psychology and communication research, the author keeps the tone encouraging, never blunt or cold. Every chapter ends with a small “Try this week” experiment, and the back of the book offers a script bank and a thirty-day practice plan. You do not need to become a different person. You need a few more sentences and the willingness to say them. Start reading, and put your whole weight on solid ground.
About the author
Meet Amelia Prescott
Amelia Prescott grew up in Bellingham, Washington, where gray, rainy winters and a house full of talkers taught her to notice what people say and what they leave out. She studied communication at Oberlin College, then spent more than a decade as a workplace mediator and communication trainer, helping teams and families say difficult things without losing one another. She now lives in Portland, Maine, in a small house near the harbor.
Amelia began writing as a teenager, filling notebooks with conversations she overheard. Her early book drafts stalled because she wrote what sounded impressive instead of what was useful. Today she writes for anyone who has ever said “I don’t mind” and meant the opposite, hoping readers finish a chapter with a sentence they can use that same evening. Her ideas start in the quiet moments she sees in her mediation work, then get tested against psychology research and conversations with people who live the problem. She admires Bréné Brown and Marshall Rosenberg, and believes clarity is a form of kindness. Away from the desk, she swims laps, bakes bread, and walks the shoreline at dawn.
